March 29th, 2006Two fans of alt-country singer Ryan Adams have been indicted on federal copyright infringement charges, for breaking a new law that makes it a felony to post copyrighted music or movies on the Internet before their commercial release. U.S. Attorney Jim Vines and My Harrison of the FBI’s Memphis Division allege that Robert Thomas, of Milwaukee, and Jared Bowser, of Jacksonville, Fla. obtained and made portions of “Jacksonville City Nights,” an album from Ryan Adams & the Cardinals on Universal Music Group’s Nashville-based Lost Highway Records, available on a website frequented by Ryan Adams fans months before its official release in September 2005.
