Man Blames Dell Laptop Cause for House Fire
August 26th, 2006Louis Minnear from Florida claimed his house caught on fire after the Dell laptop was sitting on some papers. Minnear said he smelled electrical fire and noticed his couch where the Dell laptop was sitting engulfed in flames. He proceeded to escort his pregnant wife and 9-month old son out of the house. The Fire Marshal is still investigating the cause of the fire and has not made an official announcement. Fire Chief Paul Dezzi said there was a computer on the couch when the house burned but didn’t know it was a Dell. The laptop was a Dell Latitude D500, one of the models affected in Dell’s battery recall. The fire took less than 20 minutes to burn the house down, leaving the family with nothing. The family even lost their massive 843 DVD collection.
Dell announced the largest recall, offering free battery replacements on certain Dell laptops. The fauly batteries are known to overheat and potentially fire hazardous. Sony, the manufacturer of the batteries, is working with Dell on the recall.
